Removing Read-only
Attribute
If you copy files from a CD, Windows will mark them
as read-only. This means you will not be able to write
new information or update existing information in these
files. In many cases this will cause problems. For example,
if you copy a backup of your AccuTrack data files from
a CD, the files will be marked as read-only. When you
try to use AccuTrack (e.g. sign a student in), AccuTrack
will not be able to update its data files and you will
see an error message like this one:

To fix this problem, you need to remove
the read-only attribute from the data files. Here's
is how to do it:
1) Using Windows Explorer, go to the
AccuTrack data folder.
2) Select all the files in the data
folder. A quick way to do this is to press Ctrl-A on
your keyboard (keep the 'Ctrl' button down and press
the latter 'A')

3) Using the mouse RIGHT button, click
on one of the highlighted files.
4) You will see a pop-up box. Select
"Properties" by clicking on it:

5) The "Properties" box will
come up:

6) In this box you will see the "Attributes"
section with "Read-only" box checked. Uncheck
this box:

7) Click on "OK"
Note: If you follow the above steps and the attribute stays as 'read-only', then your Widnows administration account does not have enough access-rights to make this change. You will need to recruit the assistance of a network administrator with an authorized account to update the attributes for you. |
