When you login to AccuSQL 12 and then access Database >> Database Location, you will notice a field for Application Shared path. It is recommended that you create a shared folder that you give read/write/modify access to for all users that will be logging into AccuSQL. This could be setup on the MSSQL Server itself if you want or on a completely different server. Also, you can either map a drive letter (Z:\SHARENAME) to that share, or if you prefer, you can use a UNC (\\SERVERNAME\SHARENAME) path to that location. The application shared path has many uses in AccuSQL, as follows:

  • If you intend to use student or tutor photos, in order for them to appear on all the computers running AccuSQL, they must all be pointing to the same application shared path. Shared photos are automatically stored in the application shared path PICTURES folder.
  • Any Custom Reports you create and choose to make available to all users are stored in a UserReports folder in the application shared path.
  • If an update is available for AccuSQL, it can be downloaded from any computer. After it is downloaded, the updated files are stored in the application shared path UPDATES folder. When AccuSQL opens, it can be set to automatically check the shared UPDATES folder to see if any updates are available to it and if so, it will copy the updates from the shared UPDATES folder back over to itself. Using that method, you would only need to download the update once and it would replicate to all other computer running AccuSQL from that same shared path.
  • If you plan to use the intake system and have more than one computer that is signing students into the intake queue, you are required to use an application shared path so the students in line can be seen on all the AccuSQL computers. The intake system uses a shared file called qList.dbf that enables a shared intake system amongst different computers and also to use a different intake list for each of your local labs.
  • Other files AccuSQL can access such as file attachments, queries you have saved in Query Generator, scheduled reports you are saving as pdf documents, and even mail merge documents can be saved in the application shared path so all users can have easy access to them.
