Importing data from a text file

13 September 2012 - 01:44 PM

I want to import student data (and activities and registration data) from a file that is origianlly a Google docs spreadsheet. I download as a text file (tab delimited). I begin the Accutrack import. My columns are all nicely lined up and I map them to various Accutrack tables. I get a green light on all my files when I preview the list.

However, after import, I am told that the ID is shorter than allowed for virtually all my records.

I have ID set in Options at 7-9 characters. The ID column in my import file is 7 characters long, all with leading zeros. (This ID is the student's college ID number. We have been using it for years.)

Why does my import think my IDs are not long enough?

(And by the way, the youtube videos on importing were a great help.)

Error 41?

07 September 2012 - 12:55 PM

Help! Suddenly, after a routine data repair, I am unable to re-open Accutrack: "Error #41. Memo file M/Accushared/Accudata/config.FPT is missing or invalid."

Just before this, after doing the data repair, I noticed that Deep Freeze had been (inexplicably) enabled. I have had IT disable Deep Freeze but am still getting the above message.

Switched to paper sign-ins...

Datatel/Colleague compatible?

Is Accutrack 11 compatible with Datatel/Colleague 4.4? Like, for instance, pulling in users/grades, and so on?

Colleague-compatible?

OK....the question our IT folks have is, is Accudemia compatible with Datatel/Colleague 4.3?

Survey on sign in....in Accutrack 10

14 February 2012 - 05:18 PM

My question remains...I can't use a solution for Accutrack 11. I'm posting on the 10 Forum!

I have a survey set to pop up every 10th visit (after the initial visit) asking for info about how students use our center (as a drop-in or appointment, whether they work alone or with a tutor, etc.). Is it possible to force the survey to pop up upon sign-in, rather than sign-out? I know---it seems weird to collect info beforehand, but this would collect only from frequent users, and ask questions about their usual habits. The problem with our sign-out surveys is that students are taken by surprise by them and are often running late for class, and don't want to complete them. (If I build in a opt-out,we get NO results.) If we could survey at sign-in, they would not feel rushed and we might get better compliance and more thoughtful responses.

And yes--I know we could just survey during a defined period and give everyone a head's up during that period...
