A worker turned off the power strip that powered our router in the office and our Accutrack data was lost. We have back ups from April because the school semester didn't start until August. My question is whether or not the data we had may just be in a different location or did we lose that data for good?

Some information about our set up.

Accutrack is installed on the local hard drive. The data is backed up to a server. Is it possible that nothing was lost and that the data is still on the local hard drive?

Because all that happened was the computer was disconnected from the network and so I loaded the last backup.

Hello,

Powering down the router means your network was shut down. This is not good for applications using data on the network, but it does not mean an automatic loss of your database.

Actually, I've seen cases where something like this would not affect the database at all. In other cases, some records would be lost (e.g. sign-in records if students were in the middle of a sign-in). For the whole database to get corrupted, the problem would need to be major like a hard drive crash, or perhaps repeated network problems with admins ignoring the problem and not running the database repair utility.

More likely, what happened is that once you lost the connection to your database, AccuTrack asked for its location, and someone there pointed the software to a local installation of the database that does not have your data. If this was the case, then your original database is still somewhere on your network.

So where is your database? The person that can answer this question is the one who installed the software for you. If you are not able to ask for some reason, you can do a search on your network for one of the AccuTrack files (e.g. logbook.dbf) and then check its date. The file with the most recent date would be the one last used.
