If you are currently running a version of AccuTrack 9 that is older than version 9.0.8, follow these steps to update your software:

(1) Make sure you exit AccuTrack from all computers other than the one you are using to install the update. The Remote Shutdown screen (Database -> Remote Shutdown) might be helpful in shutting down other computers using the database.

(2) Run the data repair utility to make sure the database indexes are up-to-date (click on Database -> Repair).

(3) Go to System Administration and click on "Help Center" -> "Download Update". AccuTrack would check for the latest available update and would then ask whether you want to download it. Click "Yes". Note: If AccuTrack reports that no update is found, and you are running a version older than 9.0.8, then the software was not able to get Internet connection to the update site. See the "Updated Will Not Download" items in the troubleshooting section for handling this.

(4) When the update is downloaded, the software will tell you to restart AccuTrack. Before you do that though, open the Options screen and click on the "General" tab. Make sure that the option "Application Auto Update" is selected.

(5) Exit and restart the software. The software should show a message "Upgrading database...". Click OK. If you do not see this message, exit the software and launch it again. You should now see this message.

(6) The software will start the data upgrade process by creating a backup of your existing database files. If this step fails, the update will not proceed - see "Performing the Update Locally" below to deal with this.

(7) If the database update finished successfully, AccuTrack 9 will launch. You are now running version 9.0.8 with its updated database. Go to System Administration -> Setup -> Options and click on "Save". This will refresh your configuration settings. While there, open the "Terminology" box (Click on "General" and then "Terminology". Reset the terminology if it changed.

(8) You You can now launch the software on other computers, and they will automatically update themselves to 9.0.8 by copying update file from server - i.e. there is no need for update downloads on these computers.

TROUBLESHOOTING
Performing the Update Locally
If step 6 above fails, then follow the following procedure:

1. Create a new folder on your local C drive. Call it "AccuTemp"

2. Copy "AccuData", "DataDic", and "UPDATES" from your shared network drive to the local C:\AccuTemp folder.

3. Rename the files "dbParam.dbf" and "dbParam.fpt" in your AccuTrack installation folder (i.e. C:\Program Files\Accu9) to "dbParam0.dbf" and "dbParam0.fpt"

4. Restart AccuTrack. The software will ask for the location of its database folder. Select the local copy (C:\AccuTemp\AccuData).

5. AccuTrack will launch the database update procedure. This time it should finish the procedure successfully.

6. AccuTrack will launch with version 9.0.8. Verify your data is OK, and exit the software.

7. Create a new folder on the server and call it "AccuBackup". Move the folders AccuData, DataDic, and Backups on the server to this folder.

8. Copy the folders AccuData, DataDic, and Backups from your local C drive (C:\AccuTemp\) back to the server. Your files on the server are now updated to the latest version.

9. Delete the files "dbParam.dbf" and "dbParam.fpt" from your installation folder C:\Program Files\Accu9) . Rename the files "dbParam0.dbf" and "dbParam0.fpt" in this folder to "dbParam.dbf" and "dbParam.fpt"

10. Restart AccuTrack. You are now running version 9.0.8 with its updated database on the server.

Update Will Not Download
If AccuTrack reports "No Update Found" when you click on "Download Update", then check the following:

A. Make sure that you are running an older version of the software. If you are running the latest version, then there is no update to download. Your AccuTrack version number appears in the Windows Title bar of any System Administration screen.
B. Make sure that you have an active connection to the Internet. Start your web browswer to make sure you are connected.
C. Make sure that your anti-virus or firewall is not blocking AccuTrack from accessing the web.
D. Make sure that the option "Application Auto Update" is selected (Option screen -> "General" tab.

If you check the above but still have trouble, follow this alternative update procedure:

1. Check a different installation (i.e. different lab) where the latest version of AccuTrack has been downloaded. If you do not have this, install AccuTrack 9 on another computer with Internet connection and download the latest update by following the procedure at the top of this page.

2. On the installation mentioned above, open the folder that contains the Database folder with Windows Explorer. You will see a folder called "UPDATES". This folder will have the latest updates files for AccuTrack.

3. Copy the UPDATES folder you found in step 2 above to the same folder that has your AccuTrack database folder on the installation you want to upgrade. This is equivalent to clicking "Download Update" on this older installation.

4. Continue with the update procedure by continuing with the rest of Step 4 at the top of this page.
