We are running AccuSQL version 10.5.5 at Central New Mexico Community College having installed the client on six workstations. We also are running Accutrack8 on the rest of the workstations around the main campus and the satellite campuses. Is it possible to merge a Accutrack8 DB with an already existing AccuSQL10 DB? A concern from a user who has administrative rights regards Accutrack8 data imported to AccuSQL10 DB - information that would be lost such as categories, etc. if data had previously been entered in AccuSQL10.

Hi,

The transfer from the FoxPro database to the SQL database is intended as a one-time process and you cannot 'add' to the transferred data. In other words, you can take the current AccuTrack 8 database and transfer it to a new database on the SQL server, but you cannot add it to an existing AccuSQL database.

Also tranferring from version 8 to AccuSQL should not be direct. Instead, first upgrade the database from AccuTrack version 8 format to AccuTrack version 10 format, and then transferred this database.

Note that you are running an older version of AccuSQL. The most current release is 10.5.12 at this time.

Thanks for your help. I have further questions. Since I must eventually upgrade version 8 to version 10 format in order to transfer to AccuSQL10 - how is this done? I was able to upgrade Accutrack 8.0.0 to Accutrack 8.3.0 with no problems. I'm not sure where to go from here. CNM does not have Accutrack 9 and we have a trial version of Accutrack 10.

You need to transfer the version 8 database into version 10 format, and then upload this version 10 database to the SQL Server.

Updating the database from version 8 to version 10 is rather simple. All you do is use version 10 data dictionary and open the database with version 10. The steps for upgrading databases from older versions are listed in the Reference manual and also on the tips section of the AccuTrack website.

Note that this process is even simpler in version 11. AccuSQL 11 allows you to directly take databases of AccuTrack version 7, 8, 9, and 10 into the SQL Server!
