School Remediation Software

AccuSilver is an add-on software for AccuTrack designed specifically for tracking remediation sessions in schools. The system was custom-built to manage the complex scheduling and tracking needs of remediation sessions at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, VA. The following is a description of the remediation program and how AccuSilver is being used.

About the School

Robinson Secondary School is the largest school in the Commonwealth of Virginia and includes a middle school (grades 7-8) and a high school (grades 9-12). The school's main building is the largest public building in Fairfax County. Robinson has over 4,700 students. The school is administered by the Fairfax County Public Schools.

School Remediation Program

To ensure that students do not fall behind in their academic work, Robinson Secondary School offers its student remediation classes. These classes are offered for one fixed period several days a week during the semester (e.g. 12:30 to 1:20 PM Tuesday-Friday). Most students are free to register for and attend any remediation class they need. However, at-risk students are assigned a class by the school according to their needs.

With over 4,700 students and 170 teachers, the scheduling and tracking process was too complex to manage manually. The school contacted Engineerica for assistance and we created AccuSilver for them to automate the remediation scheduling and tracking process.

AccuSilver

Robinson has over 2,000 computers for student and staff use. AccuSilver can run on any of these computers by simply accessing a web page on the school's server! The software was developed with Microsoft Silverlight, thus it offers a rich user interface that is capable of handling the heavy scheduling and tracking load.

AccuSilver offers the following functionality:
  1. Students can schedule remediation sessions with teachers for the next two weeks.
  2. Teachers can schedule remediation sessions for students.
  3. Students can change the scheduled session to another session. However, if the session was scheduled by a teacher, then only a teacher can change it.
  4. Teachers can sign the students in during the remediation session to track attendance.
  5. Teachers can view a list of students scheduled for any of their sessions.
  6. Using AccuTrack, teachers can get a report showing students scheduled for each remediation session.
  7. Teachers can enter notes on each remediation session.
  8. Teachers and administrators can attach documents to the student's record to track progress.
  9. Administrators can view students who are not scheduled for remediation sessions.
  10. Administrators can view no-shows (students who missed their scheduled sessions).
  11. The software can automatically send email messages to students the day before the remediation session to remind them about it.
  12. Administrators can create special groups (e.g. at-risk studenst group) and track these groups by generating attendance and other reports for the selected group.
  13. And more!

The scheduling process is simple and quick. Students may view or change the current registration up to the session's date. Teachers can also register the students. If this happens, students cannot over-ride the staff registration.

The remediation days of the week and time can change from one semester to the next by simply updating a file.
